Mondial Du Vent: Naish Speed Party Day 1

7th of April ! Leucate

Day started out looking very promising ! by 6am the wind was up !it was a cold, nay freezing NWsterly ! I was sitting in my little kitchen drinking coffee, a wreck of nerves thinking that if i twas blowing by this time of the morning its gona be going off its titts later, like in 40knots or more… but i was wrong ! At 10 :00 it was skippers meeting and the wind had stayed around 15 knots…we got the low down of the events rules and scehdule and the first possible start was announced to be at 11 :00 ! Within 10min the wind had died completely ! We had an hour of absolutely no wind. It was quite an experience since i had never felt warm in leucate. I parked under a tree close to the beach wher i had a view of just about everything and i spoke to my mom on skype until my battery went flat ! Dont mistake that for home sicknes ! come on its only been a week but i felt like sharing what i learnt with someone ! After my battery died i started looking for a power connection ! In the naish tent was my saving ! i found a power connection for my laptop , threw it out the back of the tent onto the steps of the boardwalk ! Then i joined ruben lenten for a bit of work ! Had a cup of coffee & spoke some *** while catching up with the rest of the world ! 

No wind is so frustrating ! I dropped all my stuff at the flat and then went back to the beach to sit and read a book ! On my way i fond Robby Naish, Manu Taub, Finian Maynard and Yann( the french naish guy) all having a chat behind the naish tent ! I dropped in and was immediately treated with a bit of ‘Finain Maynard’ philosophy about how women are soft in the beginning and cold in the end and men were cold in the beginning and soft in te end.. aparrently he was talking about relationships…. I tried to tell him he should compare hot and cold or hard and soft but not cold & soft ! really weird ! but anyway ! finain is a legend and one of my heroes so ill excuse him for that one !( Sorry Phenemenion point 7 ) 

We had to take some Speed team pix with Robby , Manu & i , so we hanged around waiting for the light to get better ! The whole time being constantly entertained by the weird and wonderfuls that approached robby for photos, autographs or interviews. Really amazing ! After spending a day with robby i vow to never bother anyone in such a way. It realy sucks, you cant even go for a piss, eat something or just about say anything without some weird person invading your space ! So respect to Robby Naish for dealing with that for 20 years or more and still be able to smile when a mother hands him a drooling screaming baby for a photo or someone asks him to pose with their white husky dog whose hair is flying everywhere. I suppose he has nerves of steel, the patience of a tiger stalking its prey and as tolerant as i dont know, just super tolerant ! i suppose this is what makes him the king he is…. We can all learn alot form that ! we all occasionally find ourselves in situations where we think we are better than others or deserve more andwe end up taking so many things for granted ! i think we should all just sometimes come down back to basics appreciate the little things, and look at the bigger picture ! we are all just human beings living a life and trying our best….. so show some respect and realise what you have ! 

oh and i forgot, manu taub tempeted me into buying french sweets, which by the way is just as amazing as proper french food, a massive bag cost me 8euros i had not even eaten 2 sweets before Robby claimed he was having red bull withdrawal symptoms ( by the way red bull is illegal in france because of the taurine/ Robby drinks 10 red bulls a day) 1+1=2 Robby needed sugar so inbetween all the crazy people he ate all my sweets ! Darnit ! ill have to get some more ! 

Around 7 we all had a beer at the Foster beer tent, and listened to a band that looked like a bunch of people out of the dustbin of an S & M shop. Theyre musice didnt at all match the appearance since it sounded like the band practise of an orchestral school band ! tReally really bad ! but the next act was even more interesting ! a solo woman, beuatiful, well dressed, sexy… stuning voice but singing in english instead of french ! she speaks no english but she is singing in english ! i dont know how to explain it ! i twas just wrong ! youd have to hear it yourself to understand ! but man o man ! its a circus out here ! 

At 20 :00 we had the official Naish Speed PArty Dinner ! It was a ‘pasta party’ it seems to be a french thing since i have not experience the like in south africa ! Lots of different pasta’s, lots of different cheese , lots of different sauces.. help yurself .. voilà ! will try it when i get home ! works well, no leftovers, come on ! Everyone loves pasta ! Was at the table with Anna( hot naish windsurfing chick) Leon ( Anna’s amazingly talented naish windsurfing boyfriend , Robby naish ( the king) , Manu taub ( knight of speed), Roberto ( italian naish guy that talks and talks and talks.. alot) and yann( French importer of naish) … so all in all it was quite * Naishy Flashy Evening !! * 

And then…. Dread descends upon my heart for mentioning this… the naishy flashy team went under cover…. We drove a total of 5km to Leucate village to El Chupito ( Little Shooter) Leucates version of Flamingoes ! it was packed ! it was chaos ! We were dancing and jumping climbing falling laughing dodging screaming shouting drinking sinking standing sitting all over the rest of the night ! I am glad to announce that i only had one drink the whole night, a silver tequila, all other drinks were either stolen, given away or knocked over by some drunk idiot ! i had my bum slapped about 200+ times and i slapped or nipple crippled the culprits 200+ times… haha ! its i twas good but doesnt even come close to flamingoes ! but i was told to wait ! Friday night is usually closed there and Saturday night is the real party ! once again dread decends on my heart just thinking about another night at el chupito ! Anyway ! Bon voyage to Robby who sneaked out of the party at 2am to go to barcelona to catch a plane home to a life more simple !
